How to BBQ

Nothing beats a BBQ on a hot summer day, so here are some tips to get the most out of your barbecue.

Make sure you prepare your barbecue before you start cooking with some high heat or if you don’t feel comfortable with the high heat make sure to shop our BBQ accessories range and get yourself a table to store your meat on beforehand. This means you can cook your meat from room temperature on moderate heat when ready rather than straight from the fridge and on high heat. If you want to season your meat, pat it with a paper towel so that your seasonings stick to it better and form a tasty crust. Why not check out our mouthwatering BBQ recipes for some inspiration?

If you’re using one of our traditional but effective coal barbeques or dual fuel BBQs, be sure to leave plenty of space between your food so oxygen can still reach the coals. Looking for something with a little less maintenance? Try one of our electric BBQs, which is perfect for quick and clean grilling plus it's easy to clean after use!

If you're looking to get the most out of your BBQ be sure to explore our BBQ accessories and get all the summer essentials for the ultimate grilling experience!

Can I have a BBQ in my garden?

Looking to have a BBQ in your garden? There are a few safety tips to consider, like making sure your barbecue is set up on a flat surface, away from dry or flammable surfaces like sheds and trees and don’t leave your barbecue unattended. If you’re using a gas BBQ grill, make sure the tap is turned off before changing the gas cylinder, and for charcoal BBQs never use petrol to light it.

We all know the British weather can be temperamental, so if you're BBQing under a shelter or gazebo make sure it is well-ventilated and your grill is away from any flammable materials. Once you've done and your BBQ has cooled down, place it in your garden storage or invest in one of our BBQ covers to protect it from discolouring or rusting, saving yourself from future scrubbing!

Is used BBQ charcoal good for the garden?

BBQ ash from your burned down charcoal is essentially wood ash, so yes you can use it on your garden to enrich your soil. Wood ash is a rich natural source of potash, which is a potassium-rich salt that can act as a natural soil enhancer or compost. If your charcoal is made of mostly sawdust and wood, which most products here in the UK tend to be, then it’s perfectly safe and even beneficial to use BBQ charcoal in your garden beds
